Beer 37 of winter – milky chance

Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro

Brewer: Left Hand       Craft: Milk Stout Nitro       ABV: 6.0%

This might be my favorite American made stout right now.  That’s right.  You read that correctly.  This stout is built on a solid malt backbone; and the addition of lactose, or milk sugar, adds the sweetness.  But the star of this show is the nitro.

I can’t describe to you how smooth this craft is.  Ok, wait.  That’s kind of why I’m doing this blogging thing, isn’t it?  Let’s try!  The use of nitrous instead of carbonation gives this stout a creamy, buttery smoothness.  It’s smoother than a Guinness.  And that’s saying something coming from a guy who’s first love, in the world of beer, was Guinness.

It is so easy to drink that you might forget you’re even drinking a beer.  Though at 6.0%, it is a bit higher in ABV than a Guinness, which is 4.2%.  So even though it goes down smooth and easy, you may feel it sooner than you think.  Get your minds out of the gutter, people.  If you’re looking for a craft beer to get your friends to try who may not be into craft beer, this is the one.  Cheers!
