Beer 47 of winter – breakfast for dinner

Brewer: Anderson Valley Craft: Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout ABV: 5.8%
So tonight we had breakfast for dinner. Has to be one of my favorite choices. And so I thought it would be wise to choose a craft that complemented bacon and eggs.
Hence, the oatmeal stout. I’ve found that most oatmeal stouts are overly driven by the oats and not balanced in their profile. Well not this one.
Anderson Valley has done it right. The oats are prominent throughout, but not overwhelming. But I also get solid, roasted malts and hints of chocolate that come through. And as I drink, notes of coffee and a bitter, hoppy finish complete the balanced package that is the Barney Flats.
I must say as well that, this would certainly be a craft that you could have for breakfast. If you’re into that kind of thing. A little hair of the dog, maybe? Cheers!
